Title: That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon
Author: Kimberly Lemming
Date/year published: 2021
Genre: Fantasy, Romance, Monster Romance, Romantasy
Format: e-pub, borrowed through Libby app and read on Kindle
Why did I choose to read it: I admit it, the title caught my attention and made me giggle. I was also looking for a lighter read at the time and thought this would be a good fit.
Synopsis:
After spice trader Cinnamon accidentally saves a demon named Fallon, he leads her on a quest to find and kill the witch that enslaved his people. Madcap adventures ensue. There’s much more to it of course, Cin is essentially kidnapped. It’s an enemies to lovers tale, as one would expect and there’s a fun bunch of other characters.
Thoughts:
I enjoyed the premise and most of the story. My personal hangup was the heat level. I’m not a fan of spicy romance novels. Nothing wrong with them, they’re just not my thing. And I will admit, if I had read more reviews instead of just giggling at the title, I would have realized it was a steamy read. Plus the cover should have clued me in.
That being said, I did enjoy it. As a reader, you can’t help but root for Cin and Fallon to complete their quest, even though Fallon is a demon and supposedly the bad guy. Lemming did a great job at world building and the tale is well written, sarcastic, and humorous – enough that I would consider reading her other books in the Mead Mishap series (The Time I Got Drunk and Yetted a Love Potion at a Werewolf, That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Human).
Would I re-read or recommend it?
Reread? Probably not.
Recommend? If you can’t get enough steamy romantasy / fantasy romance you need to find this book.
