And so it begins…

So I started a blog.  You may be wondering why.  I mean really, there are quite a number of blogs out there, so what made me decide to join the pop culture craze and start one?

1.  I have a blog/website and a bunch of electronic media dedicated to my business, Darn Yarn Needles and Thread.  When writing the shop posts, and monitoring my other media accounts, I try to limit my personal views that do not relate to fiber.  But there is often much cross over.  For example, I stock and search out American Made yarns first, so some of my shop posts reflect the “Buy American” theme that recently has seen a resurgence.  I sometimes wonder if I’m promoting my ideals more than my products.

2.  I have always had a hard time with the idea of resolutions, for a number of reasons.  Because my birthday is early in the year, each year as the world is reviewing the passing of another trip around the sun, I’m also thinking about another year of simply living on the planet.  Double Whammy.

This self-reflection gets more difficult for me each year, because in just a few more years, I will have lived longer than my mom.  This makes me reflect on many things each year… And each year as January approaches, I wonder what I’ve done with the time I was allotted.

3.  I also started to notice all the dedicated blogs.  These are great.  If you need to know how to live off the grid,  raise chickens, decorate on a budget, live in a small space, blend your family, re-enter the workforce –  there’s a blog.  In today’s computer driven world, the internet has opened up a world or resources many of us couldn’t have even dreamed of as kids.

That’s all well and good.  But what if you just wanted to dabble a little bit into a many topics.  I mean, I’m only one person, I probably won’t ever live off the grid, but I would like to reduce my dependence on fossil fuels and energy.  I’ll probably never live on a farm, but I might try chickens in the city… and what about  eating better?  I know I need to…

So, I thought, I’ll start a blog, mostly to keep me personally accountable and to see how I do over time with a few of my goals and reflections.  That’s rather a broad description, and that’s intentional.  Some posts might be about a great meal, some may be about my dog, some may even be about my shop.  I can’t promise a theme.  But in the long run, it’s not for you, it’s for me.  (Yeah, I’m being selfish and maybe a bit egotistical.)  It’s about living the life I was given to the best of my ability (with help from my friends and family, of course!).
